Actually there was a similar discussion in OCT page. Check it out:
http://code.google.com/p/opencinematools/issues/detail?id=28

I think you should donate to that guy, since he is the original developer of the OCT. I don't really have a regular access to the Dolby server, and for proper testing there should be few servers for testing out compatibility of the packages.

YOU SAID:
[Open Cinema Tools is a valid utility for DCP packages creation. It is an open source. It lacks some polishing, good looking UI. It sort of tempting for me to do a good looking front end for this tool.]

What if we all interested in a front end will donate $$... so you make that?
Please, let us know and create a Paypal link for donations. I will donate, and I'm sure many people interested in this also will.
And thanks for taking the time and doing this...

Hey!, very good guide, but is very technical and so much steps. We have a in-house Software that does DCPs with 100% compatibility.

We are FOCUSED into the indie market, for that, we lower our DCPs to 200€ per 8 minutes of lenght each one.

Checkout www.transfercinedigital.com and discover what we offer.

Hi Alexander,

Nice write-up. Would love to see the 3D film you're working on.

Two things: Wrong OpenJPEG url (http://www.openjpeg.org/index.php?menu=main is the right one).

And, more importantly, wrt JPEG Interop / SMPTE compliant DCP: It's the exact opposite: Interop is the older format and SMPTE is the younger format. Servers are being updated ~right now to accomodate for SMPTE compliant packages.

Wrt opencinematools and building tools with it: Alas, the latest release of opencinematools is ancient. Key features missing (for example MPEG2-VES essence support, see http://wiki.github.com/wolfgangw/digital_cinema_tools/mpeg2-essence-support-for-opencinematools-112 for a patch to solve this specific issue). The dependencies it provides are out-dated. There's a number of problems in the code and the developer has mentioned in passing that one shouldn't expect any major updates from his side.

You can almost grab the opaqueness this lamentable situation produces in forums like http://code.google.com/p/opencinematools/updates/list

Somehow this needs to get fixed. Not sure how, not sure who. But rather sooner than later. Something to keep in mind when thinking about building tools on a brittle foundation.

Be good
